Oh, Just Going Back To Makin' Magic

Yesterday I went up to Orlando to work. At Disney. In Tomorrowland.

It was the first time I had been back in over a year. One year, one months and five days to be exact. I was really nervous, mostly because I didn't know what to expect. I didn't if the people would be the same, if the back stage area would be laid out the same, or if the policies and procedures would be the same. How would I find my way around?! How would I know what to do!?

Well, I was afraid for no reason. Some of the people were different, and some were the same. They moved absolutely everything around backstage, I had no idea where to find anything. And most of the policies were the same except for the new My Magic + bracelets. But I figured those out quick enough.

I picked up a shift in Zone 1 so that I would be inside and not doing photos. I assumed photos were really different and that thought was daunting.

When I walked upstairs to clock in I saw a few people I knew and got some hugs. Everyone else asked if I was new, or if I was EHH. Which technically I was but I found myself explaining that I wasn't new but that I hadn't worked in so long that it felt like I was new. I had what I said down by the end, I was asked it so much.

It took me all of two seconds to fall back in love. Oh how I wish I lived closer so that I could pick of shifts all the time. It is entirely true that what we do is make magic. I had a very, very magical night.

At one point a woman asked me if we sold any Donald Duck shirts for boys. I pointed to the one that we had and she said that it looked too big for her son, who was walking around with the Donald Duck hat on his head. I realized that the one on the front was a large and showed her the smallest size. It would be perfect for her son. It was then that she told me they were trying to convince him to get a shirt instead of the hat because he would be able to wear it all the time.

So I used my magical cast member skills to convince the little boy that the shirt was so much cooler than the hat. That all of his friends would be jealous and that it would be so much better to have a shirt with an angry Donald on it than a hat that make Donald look silly. He agreed and his mom was so grateful.

I had a pin that helped a woman complete her pin set. She was so excited and we talked about some of the other pins she needed.

I got to hear the fireworks and sing along to Wishes, the best exit music ever. I also got to hear the Celebrate the Magic music, which they have added Frozen music to!

After my break I was somehow moved into Zone 2 and was put out at the Pin Cart. It was so cold! I wasn't expecting to work outside so I didn't get a jacket. It wasn't so bad as long as I didn't stand in one place.

I helped a lot of people find pins and add to their collections. The best part of the evening was towards the end of the night when a little girl came up to me and asked to look at my pins. I showed her what I had and she traded me something but told me that what she was really looking for was princess shoes. I asked which ones she still needed and her mom told me that they only had Aurora and Snow White.

What they didn't was that I had my personal pin trading lanyard in my pocket and earlier that day when I was in the park as a guest I had traded someone for the Jasmine shoe. So I pulled it out and told her that I thought it was more important that she have it.

She was so excited, she gave me a hug! Her mom was so happy too and told me that she had told her daughter that they were going to make only one more stop before they left. They had chosen correctly! It was absolutely amazing. I love making people happy!

I didn't get out of work until 2:15 and I didn't even mind. I didn't even mind that I had to drive an hour home. It was fun to restock the store, it was fun to ring things up and put things in boxes, it was fun to be a part of making some peoples vacations better.

The people who work there are awesome.

Oh, I don't think I told you. Molly moved to Disney last Monday to start her program. I went up to help her move in to her apartment at Vista Way. She had her first day of training today. She was originally assigned to work Main Gate Operations at Animal Kingdom but because she is still recovering from her broken foot they had to move her. Can you guess where they moved her to?

That's right.

Tomorrowland Merchandise.

Our lives are continuously becoming more and more the same.

It really is a magical small world after all!
