Movie Review: Wreck-It Ralph
I saw Wreck-It Ralph last night and let me tell you - it was blow your mind amazing!
I was very excited to see it not only because it had gotten really good reviews but because the concept just seemed so original and awesome. I love creative movies, movies that create whole worlds of their own and don't half ass it. This movie did no such thing. The amount of detail they put into the world of the video game characters was completely believable.
For those of you that have heard nothing about the movie it is about a video game bad guy who is tired of being a bad guy. He game jumps, hoping to redeem himself to the other characters in his game. There is a bad guy and an adorable little girl and plenty of cameos from famous video game characters.
The characters were perfect, adorable, likable and yet full of depth. You could relate to their struggles and feel for them but also have fun with them through the story.
The animation was perfect. The filmmakers took the video game theme to heart. The characters moved in the jerky fashion that old video games are famous for. It made it feel like you were really watching video game characters - it really helped bring it to life. The nature of the video game setting made for endless possibilities of where these characters could be and because of that the movie was colorful and creative.
I highly recommend you see Wreck-It Ralph. It is one of the most genius works of art that I have seen in a long time. Disney never fails to impress and I feel like this time they went above and beyond. It's a must see.
I know that this is super generic and probably makes it sound like any other movie but that's because I don't want to give anything away! As I was watching it just kept getting better and better. Not only with all of the video game references but also mentions of pop culture and candy! Why candy? Well one of the video games in the movie is called Sugar Rush and it is a mario kart style game in a candy themed land. So everything was made out of candy and they talked in candy references! It was so creative! The amount of detail and creativity was what made it so amazing. Go see it, you will not regret it.
Also: there was a short film that was featured at the beginning of the movie. It was called Paperman and it was short film perfection. It was about a man and a women who meet briefly on a subway platform. The man then sees the woman in the building across the street from where he works and tries to send a paper airplane into the window to get her attention. It lacked any dialog like most short film but that didn't matter, it was sweet and heart warming. One of my new favorites.
