Spring 2015 - Day 11
Today was a good day. It became a good day after I took the best nap ever before my class. It was one of those naps that you struggle to wake up from. I even had an inception-like dream. I dreamed I was reading something online and then a bunch of people came into my cabin and woke me up and I had a really hard time waking up because I wanted to keep reading whatever it was I was reading in my dream. We all got ready for dinner together and laughed and danced. It seemed like we had planned some kind of party and were getting ready for it. As soon as I ushered everyone out the door to go to dinner I woke up for real to my alarm. It was surreal, and it took me a long time to wake up, I was really deep in sleep.
But I felt so much better after that point. I was awake and not as fatigued, I was ready to take on the afternoon!
I really enjoyed my art class. We continued to work on our landscapes. Mine is coming along a lot better than I expected, I am going to have to do a lot of work on it outside of class because it is taking a while and is due the next time we meet. But I think, for once, I won't mind doing my homework.
My morning classes were pretty good. I woke up more refreshed and very hungry. I got oatmeal after photojournalism. In that class we just went over and critiqued our first assignments. We had to create a sequence. I used the photos I took of Jon Goebel demonstrating how screen printing works. I thought it was an interesting idea for a sequence but apparently the photos were not different enough. Oh well, now I know. Our next assignment is on depth of field which we will be learning about next class.
World mythologies is a struggle. We have yet to learn about any myths. Instead he says things like, "the myths we will be discussing..." or "most of the myths..." just all very general things. It's really hard to follow. He also keeps telling us about all of the questions that were submitted as our first assignment. Apparently he has fifteen pages of questions. And he loves to tell us that the most asked questions is "What is myth?" It annoys Jessi and I so much. Just tell us what myth is! Don't continue to repeat the question and not actually answer it! I am ready to start learning about actual myths but we won't be doing that until the class right before Japan. Until then it is just more of this general information.
Right after art class I remembered that our shipboard mom's birthday is tomorrow. I emailed Jessi to remind her and to also let me know when she was going to dinner. She emailed me back that she had already ate so I went up and ate by myself. I was still really unimpressed with the food, I am already sick of it even though I have yet to consume the pasta and potatoes.
After dinner I was in my cabin getting ready to do some painting when I heard a knock on the door. It was Jessi, she had ordered a cake for mom's birthday. We were going to have dinner at 6 and then surprise her with the cake at 6:30. Now all we had to do was get the word out.
She laid on my bed and I painted while we talked until it was time to go to the gym. We have been going to the gym every day since we left Hawaii, I am pretty impressed with us. I think we will be able to run one more time tomorrow and then it might get too rocky for it to be safe. Jessi's professor told her class that he talked to someone that worked on the bridge and was told that we booked it out of Hawaii in order to avoid a storm that had 60ft swells but are still going to go through something that has 30ft swells. Sounds fantastic. *sarcasm*
I think the most we've had at this point is 12ft. Of course, at this point it is all hearsay. We won't really know what will happen until it is happening. They don't really warn us in advance. But if we are in the middle of something bad they will tend to tell us when they think it will end. We've had a little bit of sustained rolling the past few days, that is probably why I felt so awful yesterday, but it really hasn't been that bad. At least my hindsight has me thinking that.
After the gym, when I got out of the shower, I had an email from Jessi with the subject ABORT ABORT. Apparently mom has fancy dining with the life long learners tomorrow for her birthday so we have to move it to the 20th and remember to postpone the cake. And we need to find everyone in our family and tell them that the date has changed AH! What we really need to do is get the list of everyone emails so we can contact everyone at once. But that is a task for tomorrow.
Tonight we go back another hour! As far as I know we are prepping to go over the international date line. I really have no idea how that is going to work and I am really excited to find out. Today is the 17th, tomorrow, the 18th, we will be 7 hours behind the east coast. Then, we will go to sleep on the night of the 18th and wake up on the morning of the 20th. The 19th will just not exist for us. We will then be 21 hours ahead of the east coast. At least I think that is how it is going to work. But I could be wrong. I also and pretty sure that Japan is only 14 hours ahead of the east coast, so maybe when we jump the full day we will also lose of hours. I really am not sure how it works exactly. But I guess I will find out tomorrow!
Tomorrow I don't have class until the afternoon but I need to work on my art more and I am going to an alumni event! Should be a good day!
