Theta's Takeover Disney!

On Sunday I got to see a whole bunch of my sisters! It definitely made up for my terrible mood from the night before.

For those of you that don't know I am a sister of Kappa Alpha Theta Fraternity. We are a social sorority made up of about 140 girls. They just went through recruitment and added 40 who I have never met! I am technically an abroad member this semester even though I am only an hour away. This weekend was their fall retreat, a first for our chapter, and they decided to go to Disney!! Yay! Unfortunately, because my dues were less I couldn't join them on the first day of the retreat but I was free to meet up with them at the park on Sunday. And Sunday is my day off! Woo!

I met up with them right at 9 when the park opened and we headed right over to The Land area. First we hit the Finding Nemo ride, so adorable.

Then we went on Soarin'. It was a few of their first time on Soarin' so when we got up to the front of the ride I requested front and middle because that is by far the best place to experience the ride from. If you ever go on it ask to sit in row one in the middle section. That way you are not seeing peoples feet above you and you are centered on the screen.

Because we requested the specific place we had to wait one ride cycle and as we were waiting we ended up being caught up to by another huge group of us. It wasn't a hard thing to do throughout the day since there was about 130 of us in the park all together. One of the ride attendants noticed that we were all wearing the same shirts as the group waiting pretty far behind us and he asked if we knew them all and could name them all by name. We could and it impressed him. They ended up being on the same ride as us and we got the ride attendant, Michael, I think his name was, to take a picture for us.

There is a reason we called it a Theta takeover!

After Soarin' (which the first timers all LOVED) we went over to Mission Space. This ride simulates taking off in a rocket by spinning you at 35 miles an hour, reaching 2.5 Gs. It is the first ride in Disney history to provide 'motion sickness bags'. That fact has always kept me away from the ride but a few weeks ago when my roommates came up I finally went on it and, of course, it is awesome.

We pretty much walked right on to the ride.

But once we actually were locked in the ride vehicle an announcement came through and announced that our departure was delayed. I took the opportunity to fish my phone out of my pocket and actually take pictures of us on the ride.

Good thing none of us are very claustrophobic because we were in there for a while. Eventually a ride attendant opened it up and we had to leave, someone had thrown up. :/

But he gave us good-any-time fast passes so we just walked right back on to the other side, which was still up.

Awesome.

After that we went back to the front of the park where they had planned to meet so that we could take a group picture.

That's not all of us obviously, a bunch of us didn't show up. As you can see I'm the odd man out because I didn't get one of the shirts. I will get them all, just not until December.

By that time World Showcase was open so we went on a quest for lunch and spent the majority of the rest of the day taking pictures with characters. Because there were so many of us in the park by the time we got to Snow White and Mulan they had already been taught what Kiting was. That was pretty awesome. We got to Mary Poppins first though.

Our sororities symbol is the kite, which is why we kite everything. I think kiting Mary Poppins was the most special though. Walt Disney's daughters are also Thetas and after Mary Poppins was made he asked that Let's Go Fly a Kite be dedicated to the Thetas. Pretty awesome if you ask me. Just another reason why I know Theta was the perfect choice for me.

The Food and Wine festival was going on so we took full advantage of that. Kellie and I had pierogis from Poland and a caramel apple from Germany. We split both of them, which was perfect. We also finally got in our Mickey bars. Those this are so delicious and feel so Disney. I really enjoy the concept of the Food and Wine festival because they really set you up for success if you wanted to eat at all of the countries that they have represented. You only get a small taste of the food, which is perfect.

One of the very last things that we did was go into Mouse Gear, the giant giftshop at the front of the park. I discovered that they had an embroidery station there so I took the opportunity to get Kellie her hat, something she has wanted for a long time, and I got myself one as well. Finally we have ears that don't have a graduation hat attached to them.

Perfect.

Actually what was perfect was ending the day by going to our favorite restaurant, Olivia's, in Old Key West Resort. We ate the delicious pineapple coconut bread and creeped on the waiter we like that is still there. That was the perfect end.
