Day 1!

I'm sitting in my room and we are in the middle of the ocean on our way to Russia! We heard a bunch of people talk at us tonight and had our life boat drill and then had our floor meetings where they just kept spitting information at us. Basically we can't bring anything on the ship and we can't do anything fun. Well… too much fun. And laundry is annoying.

Tomorrow we have an entire day of orientation where we are going to have even more things told to us, like staying healthy on the ship, and the honor code and our school schedule. At least the talking will be broken up with food. The food isn't too bad so far. At least there is consistently salad and veggies. But there is only one fruit option per meal and that is so not ok with me. I can see how the food is going to get old fast, and we are only given the three meals a day so I have no idea what I am going to do when it is three in the afternoon and I am hungry. The other food available on the ship is not healthy at all so this will be interesting. I only brought one box of protein bars with me.

The ship itself is beautiful. It was originally built as a luxury cruse liner and it definitely comes through. Especially the fact that there is a piano lounge, a pool, and a spa. It makes it feel quite legit. I am so excited to use the spa, at least once.

Our room is tiny but its fine, its just a little smaller then the dorm rooms at school. There was plenty of room to put everything away with room to spare! I can't wait to collect things from around the world.

The magnets that my friend Rebecca gave me for my birthday are perfect, they make the room very cheerful. That and my quote board make it perfect. My roommates name is Jesscia, how ironic, my roommate at school's name is Jessica. This Jessica is very nice, she's from Kentucky and is a Marine Biology major. We have two classes together. It was surprising how quickly people grouped up, I only really met a few people. But everyone is really positive and interesting. I am ready for classes to start so I can meet people that way. There is also, apparently, a lot of groups that form on the ship, a lot of activities. We will learn about them all tomorrow night.

I'm ready for the school store to open so that I can buy all the things that say Semester at Sea on them. Especially sweat pants. I didn't bring them with me with the intention of buying them, I need something comfy to wear!

We are already jumping ahead an hour tonight, so now we will be 6 hours ahead. I think that is the worst time difference. It's weird that, right now, it is eleven o'clock and I am about to go to be bed while you all are just about to eat dinner. I'm not sure I will ever be used to that.

The wifi is painful. Even sending emails. I need to kick my Facebook/Instagram addiction. It still feels weird to not have my phone on me all the time. What am I supposed to do when I'm sitting waiting for a seminar to start! This is a detoxing that I don't like.

While I am comfortable on a cruse ship I am still feeling very out of place and I am ready for that to end. The next few days will be interesting.
