Day 2

This morning I missed breakfast, which is always a real downer. I thought it ended at 9 but it really ended at 8:30. So I ate a protein bar.

I then was talked at all day and learned basically nothing new. It was tiring. I had a headache by the end, and almost fell asleep a few times. It's now really drilled into my head about being back to the ship on time and traveling safely and not bringing things like glass and alcohol on the ship.

One thing that was interesting was when we heard from the all of the global comparative lens professors. We all have to take one of these classes, mine is Marine Biology. These are the classes whose curriculum will purposely follow our path through the countries. All of the classes sounded really interesting, I wish I could take more than one. Especially the geography class, it would be very cool to learn the geography of the regions we are traveling through. The religion class also sounded very interesting. The concept of learning about places while we are actually there is very awesome.

After the hours of talking I went to the field program desk to look up what the heck I am doing in St. Petersburg because I really did not remember. Apparently I am going on an overnight to Vyborg. There we will visit and have a meal with a Russian family, the next day we will tour the town.

That doesn't start until day 2 so I signed up for another program on the first night. It's a boat tour of St. Petersburg at night, should be beautiful. I am not all that comfortable exploring Russia on my own so I don't know what I am going to do during the day before the boat tour.

I just got back from the activities fair where I signed up for a lot of activities. It's interesting, at school I am not involved on a lot. I focus a lot on school and work and my sorority. I volunteer when I need to for Theta and am not in any clubs. I am determined to actually be involved in things this semester.

I first went to sign up for Yoga and Zumba but there were so many people trying to write there name down that they took away the sign up sheets. They are now just going to send out mass emails with the times and we can show up on a first-come first-serve basis. I thing it will be amazing to do yoga out on the deck.

I also signed up to meet with the life long learners. There are some older, non-students aboard the ship that will form small families that will meet once a week, kind of like mentors. They were talking about playing cards and I mentioned that I learned how to play set back from my grandfather. They didn't know what that was but were very interested in learning it. Now I actually need to remember how to play.

Along with the life long learners there are also some families of professors aboard, some of which include children. Working with the children is one of the potential activities, one that I was not planning on signing up for, but they were looking for dance tutors so I put my name down. We will see what happens.

I also got a 'Passport to LeaderSHIP'. Its a tiny book that you collect stamps in and if you attend one program in each of the eight disciplines you will receive an extra stamp on your certificate at the end of the voyage.

I feel like I signed up for something else but I can not remember what it was so I guess I will see what emails I get.

Classes start tomorrow and the store opens! I'm so excited! I also signed up to go to spend time at the gym. I am so ready to start a routine. At least, as much of a routine and I can have.

I thought you all would find this interesting, here is the bridge report for the day, August 25th:
