Day 75
Talent show craziness!
I spent most of the day practicing. I couldn’t find anyone to teach me the dougie so I had to take it out of my dance. I like that song. :(
The dress rehearsal went pretty well. There are some acts that are really good. There is one that rewrote the lyrics to Baby Got Back and now it is SAS themed and it is very, very funny.
I am right after a group that is playing guitar and singing No Woman No Cry and right after me are two guys who composed a slow version of Lose Yourself by Eminem. They are really, really good. And then there is Amanda, who is a nationally ranked competitive jump roper. She went and blew everyone away and then walked off the floor and said that she was awful. Amanda, no one can jump rope like you can, anything you do will be amazing, I promise.
In my International Management class we talked about negotiating salaries. It was the first time that I actually felt like I learned something in that class. And it Marine Bio we are now discussing marine mammals. There are baleen whales and toothed whales and many many more species of different whales and dolphins than I ever thought there were.
The most interesting thing is echolocation. Only toothed whales echolocate and most toothed whales are dolphins. The only actually whale is the sperm whale. Dolphins produce the clicking noises that they use to echolocate with from their blowholes and when the sounds come back they "hear" them with their lower jaw.
We have done experiments with dolphins in captivity where we blind fold them and they are still allowed to find there way. And they can identify a complex object that they echolocated onto moments before. Pretty cool.
It has been 6 days since started our 12 day stretch, we are half way to South America! And I am not getting stir crazy at all. I don't know if I expected to or not but I am really glad because that would have made this 12 days drag on forever.
There is just so much for us to do! Tomorrow is the talent show and the day after that our two resident astronauts are going to give a talk on what it is like in space. I can't wait!
