Day 76
I just finished putting about 100 sticky notes all over Amanda's door with Emily, Molly, Lillian, and Marie. I'm not exaggerating when I say 100. They are everywhere, including a trail up the stairs.
Today is Amanda's birthday! And covering cabin doors is the thing to do for birthdays. We also printed out photos of her and wrote notes on all of them. I went blunt card style because those are the best. I also drew a sheep because I felt like it.
We also went through every hallway and wrote "Amanda's 21 today" on every single white board. The whole ship is going to know today is her birthday. Actually they probably already do because we all sang Happy Birthday to her after she performed. Which, she won third place for. I have never seen anyone jump rope like she does. She is ranked 9th in the entire world and number 3 in the United States. She does this crazy thing where she lets go of one handle, swings it like a nun-chuck or boomerang and then catches it again and just keeps on jumping. Its crazy. She deserved her third place win.
In second came Goat Noise. I told you about them after auditions. One plays the Ukulele and the other plays the guitar and drums at the same time. They sang I Will Survive at the dress rehearsal and not their signature song that they wrote, which was really disappointing. But someone convinced them that they needed to do it because that is what they opened with and then went into the actual song. The song that they wrote is barely a real song. It has a great melody that they came up with but doesn't really have words. They just make random animal noises and offhand comments. The animal noises are the best part. And they told the audience to just throw out animal noises as they saw fit which was hilarious. I did get the whole thing on film so don't worry, you will be able to see this ridiculousness. I'm certain they need to be famous. Solely for the reason that they have an absolutely perfect band name.
The first place winner was MC SASer and the SAS Attackers. They wrote new lyrics to the song Baby Got Back, which was absolutely perfect. I am going to try and get the lyrics from them so that I can post it for you guys. They were pretty good they deserved to come in first.
So, I did not place, but I did have a lot of fun and I had a great crowd reaction from my performance and have gotten a lot of complements. I am glad that I did it. I have been trying to push myself out of my comfort zone so that at the end of my voyage I am not left wondering why no one knows who I am. It's all about putting yourself out there. It's scary but can pay off and its the only way to have a chance. If you don't go for it then you will never have a chance.
One of the acts sang a song that he wrote called Tug-of-War. It was about that feeling of not wanting to step outside of your comfort zone.
One of my favorite acts was a girl singing Think of Me from Phantom of the Opera, she was absolutely fantastic. I was blown away. She didn’t even use a mic. Man, could she belt.
And the RDs rewrote 12 days of Christmas into 12 days of SAS. I will try to get those lyrics too because it was pretty funny. They had props and people dressed up, it was a lot of fun.
I hope you guys think these things are funny too, when I post them. I guess a lot of them are jokes that only resonate if you are on the voyage. But I think my blogs will help you understand them. You know who Dr. Dave is, and you know how much we hate the food, that pretty much covers it.
Tomorrow is a study day. We are going to be filming our movie for the Atlantic Ocean film festival! I can't wait, it should be a lot of fun.
