Spring 2015 - Day 84 (April 1st)

April fools day is a scary thing no matter where you are but for some reason I felt more afraid because we were in an enclosed space on a ship. But nothing too exciting happened. Christine of the field office tried to pretend that one of the major programs was canceled but it backfired on her.

The best thing that happened was during World Myth. Hugh started off the class by talking about the myth of April Fools day and then moved on to talking about Poisson D’Avril, the french version of April Fools day where people stick paper fishes to each others backs.

As soon as he was done he told us all to watch our backs and then turned around. He had a fish on his back!!

I swear, he planned that for a while and pulled it off flawlessly. It was hilarious. Hugh is my favorite person.

It was the highlight of my day.

Another highlight of the day was when Hugh handed our exams back. Both of his TAs had graded them and while mine had marks on the first page there wasn't a grade on it. I approached Hugh and told him. He took it back behind the projector for a minute, came back, hit me with it, and told me I did a great job. He gave me an A! Ha! That was definitely not A work. Bonus of going on a wine tour with your professor?

The other highlight of my day was the announcement Kevin made before logistical pre-port. He always makes an announcement 15 minutes before that evenings activity reminding us of what it is and where it starts. Tonight, this was his announcement:

“Tonights joint cultural and logistical pre-port will begin in 35 minutes. I am telling you this now because I need to go get a haircut and don’t think I will be back in 15 minutes. See you at 8.”

Oh Kevin.

During pre-port Dean Bob told us all not to go ride ATMs. I think he really meant ATVs but his mistake was a good laugh.

The only other think that happened today was that I emailed Jessi about plans because we had originally planned to do things together including going to Windhoek. At the very least we both had tickets to the sea kayaking on the second day. She told me that she didn't think she wanted to go kayaking because she had a terrible experience in Ha Long Bay. I told her I wasn't going to make her do something that would make her uncomfortable but I really wanted her to come.

I really don't think she will come. Oh well. My plan is to spend my days doing various different things, most of them with Stephanie. Namibia doesn’t have all that much to do. I really should have done a longer program through SAS but I didn't so now I will have to find things to do. For tomorrow there is a day trip that I am going to try and get on. Shouldn't be too hard. Hopefully.
