Day 48

I am so sunburned.

And it pisses me off because I applied sunscreen liberally every 2 hours and I did not feel toasty at all.

I felt great actually.

And I looked liked I had tanned when I showered.

And then BAM.

Sunburn

So angry.

That is what I did today, tanned. Or fried my skin, I guess you would say now. Today was a study day, that meant no classes and no actual obligations.

In the morning I had a meeting about the parents trip in Cape Town. My parents had already sent me the itinerary so I didn’t really learn anything new. Except that Clay, the ship videographer, is going to be coming with us. That’s pretty cool. Maybe I will end up in the end of the year video or something on the website.

The trip looks like it is going to be really cool. On the first day my parents will be there to see the ship come in and then I get to give them a tour. The next day we fly to a private game reserve where we will spend the next three days and participate in multiple different game drives. Hopefully we see some animals.

After my meeting I found Molly and we went out to the pool deck, which was absolutely packed with people. We spent the majority of the day on the port side of deck seven laying in the sun. And I applied sunscreen so much. And it was SPF 30. Still so angry.

After tanning we sat in the piano lounge and did homework. Don't worry Dad, I did do work on study day.

Tonight was movie night. I highly recommend watching the movie we saw. It is called Not Since You and was produced by Ashley Epting, who is the alumni coordinator on our voyage. Which is kind of awesome. And he's kind of awesome.

He's found a way to combine two of his passions, catering and film. His family has a high end catering business that he is heavily involved in and then he also acts in and makes movies. He's current working on producing a T.V show called Black Tie & BBQ which features the catering business and follows them putting together their events. He showed us a preview of it and it looks really funny.

He talked to us about how his own Semester At Sea voyage affected the production of the movie. Which mostly involved how the people he met on his voyage helped get the movie made.

It was a really well put together movie. It was funny and sad and had a good plot that was easy to follow but not all that predictable. It was about a group of friends that reunited at a wedding and some drama ensued between people who are couples now and people who used to be couples.

And we got free popcorn. So that was even better.

Tomorrow is back to the school grind. It's weird that it has been 4 days and we aren't in another country. The pace of the voyage has slowed down significantly and we all aren't used to it yet. The food is going the opposite direction of improving.

I think some people tried to start a game of hide and seek tonight. I don't think it went very well. But that sounds like an awesome idea. We came up with an idea for a ship wide capture the flag competition. How bad ass would that be? I don't think that would be approved though, so we would have to keep it on the DL.

We will see how that idea plays out. My sense is telling me not very well.

I'm going to go pretend I am not sunburned now. Maybe it will turn into a tan and not back to pale like it usually does.

Tan… think tan.
