Day 60

I got to go to the clinic today. And not during clinic hours.

It was pretty exciting.

It happened during the Halloween dance, which started at 20:00. Don't ask why we are celebrating Halloween on the 22nd when we will be on the ship on actual Halloween. No one knows.

I went as Cinderella. Molly was Ariel, Marie was Jasmine, and Lillian was Pocahontas. If we all stood together you could tell. When I was standing alone I just looked like a girl in a blue dress.

The Halloween dance was on deck 7 aft, so it was outside. Sammy was the DJ. When Molly and I got up there there wasn't all that many people. But as time passed it got busier and busier. There were some really creative costumes. It was awesome to see what people came up with using such limited resources. Three of the RDs were the Blue Man Group. Two students dressed up as the ship security guards. I saw the M&Ms, Thing 1 and Thing 2, the dick in a box guy, and various animals. It was all very creative. Molly and I were sitting at the pool bar just observing the crowd when we finally found Marie, Lillian, and the other people in our group. We decided that we needed to take a picture together. Molly had her back to me talking to someone and then pointed my direction. Her finger went right in my eye.

I actually felt her finger against my eyeball. It was not pleasant.

My eye immediately teared up and I couldn’t open it. She had to lead me through the crowd to the bathroom. She had done crazy makeup on me and it was streaked down my face in black lines from the involuntary tears I was crying. I couldn’t open my eye. It was completely bloodshot. The entire thing was blood red, it was creepy.

I had seen Lori wandering around the dance so I figured I would find her and ask her what I should do. The first person I saw was Sarah, one of the RDs and my other shipboard mom. I asked if she had seen Lori and when she said not recently I told her what happened. She was with another RD, Patrick, who was the RD on duty. They told me Lori wasn't the one on call, Dr. Dave was, and since I couldn’t open my eye we should go see him.

Apparently he was in the Union having band practice. He plays the drums.

We went to the Union, interrupted band practice, and went down to the clinic.

There he examined my eye, first normally and then he put dye in it and looked at it under a black light. The dye made my vision a little orange.

The good news is that she missed my cornea. The bad news is that she did scratch my eye. It feels like there is something in my eye all the time. He told me to take some ibuprofen, to stay out of bright lights, and to go back to the clinic tomorrow to have it rechecked.

At least I can open my eye now. Although if I try to look at something far away or strain to focus it hurts.

We went back up to the dance but neither of us were really feeling it any more so we changed and watched The Big Bang Theory in the piano lounge.

The first half of the day was far less exciting. I ate mostly tangerines for both of my meals. In travel writing we had to write about an experience in country when things didn’t go right. I ran the script I wrote by Ashley and he liked the idea. Now all we have to do is cast a male lead. I got Molly in trouble at work. She works in the campus store and I go and hang out with her there because she doesn't do all that much and gets bored. Yesterday I was sitting on the floor on my computer when her boss walked in. Apparently she thought I was sleeping. Because apparently now typing means sleeping. I don't know. Either way I am no longer allowed to visit. I'm sad, that was a main form of my entertainment.

Tomorrow is a study day and not only that but we will be bunkering in Namibia. We will dock there at 10 in the morning and will not leave until 6 the next morning.

Only four more days until I see my parents!

Hopefully the weather is nice tomorrow. For the past two days it has been horribly cloudy and cold. I want to be able to tan before I have to meet with my International Management group to work on our presentations.

Yay actual studying on study day!

Oh crap, I just realized I am meeting my group at 4 but I now have to go to the clinic between 4:30 and 5:30. Oops. I guess they will have to work without me for a bit while I get my eye looked at again.
