Day 58
Oh man, I didn’t finish blogging last night. This is because exciting things were happening.
First, I have two words:
Fruit cobbler.
Imagine the most delicious warm fruit cobbler you have ever had and then imagine eating it in the middle of the ocean where all of your other food is the same color.
That's an exaggeration but really, they had fruit cobbler today. They had it way back during the first week and I have been waiting anxiously for it to appear again. When it did at dinner I literally exclaimed, "Oh my god, the magical fruit cobbler is back!"
I ate two bowls of it, it made my whole day. Peachy, peary, blueberry cobbler goodness. Best dessert ever.
Yesterday was also the talent show auditions and I did awesome. I got the loudest applause of the acts that went around me. I am hoping that bodes well. They had 31 people audition and they are only going to take around 20. There was another group that was two guys, one playing the ukulele and the other simultaneously playing the drums and guitar. There was another guy sitting up there with him and we wouldn’t figure out what he was for, his only use was to smile and clap. They named their band Goat Noise and played a song that they wrote. It was awesome, they need an EP and a wikipedia page.
There is a lot of talent on the ship. People singing, and playing piano, and playing guitar, and dancing. One of my friends, Amanda, jump ropes. That sounds really lame but no, she professionally and competitively jump ropes. It's absolutely mind blowing.
The talent show is much earlier than I thought it would be: November 7th. During our atlantic crossing. That's also when sea olympics is. I guess they do need things to keep up busy for 12 days.
After the talent show auditions we were all hanging in the Union. Ashley told us he was thinking about putting together a 72 hour movie festival. Where we have to make a movie in 72 hours and then they screen them and pick a winner. But we was thinking of combining the 72 hour film festival and the found footage film festival and requiring us to use a certain amount of footage that we have shot in country.
Molly, Lillan, and I were then sitting there brainstorming ideas for our movie when Lillian put out this gem: "A girl falls in love with a boy and then finds out he's not a boy, he's a statue."
What the hell? How would the girl not realize he's a statue?
And then we were talking about how to incorporate the footage of Molly riding a camel and she said this, "I have an idea of how we could make her afraid of camels…. You know how you love hamburgers?"
Yes, because those two things are related. Oh Lillian.
I told her she needs to make her own movie called The Inside of Lillian's Brain. It would definitely be experimental and would definitely confuse all of us. She comes up with the most obscurely hilarious things.
We brainstormed ideas for a while when Lillian came up with a fantastic one. I am writing the script now. I don't know if I will be able to incorporate my footage from the countries into it so I might not be able to use it for the film festival if they actually do one but I think we are going to make it anyway.
We talked about it until almost one in the morning. That was not smart because I had to get up for class at 8, but the flowing of ideas was worth it.
Nothing much happened today. Homework, and practicing for the talent show.
We did watch a movie in my travel writing class about Ghana. It followed two different families through their daily routines. It portrayed things that I saw when I was there so it was a bit surreal to watch. What also happened in class was that our professor wrote on the white board with a permanent marker. I know the trick to getting it off so I became the designated white board cleaner. He emailed me later to thank me for jumping up and helping him. Brownie points.
That's everything I have to report, mostly because I am just still thinking about that fruit cobbler. It's consuming all of my thoughts. So magical.
