Day 101
The ship went really fast today.
That sounds really random but it was actually really cool. They did it to test the engines. Our ship has a maximum speed in the high thirties, it is one of the fastest passenger ships that exists. We generally go between 8 and 12 knots. Not very fast. They would be bumping it up to about 30 knots which would create a rooster tail effect off the back.
Molly and I dragged ourselves out of bed to see it. The trail behind the the ship is normally very flat and peaceful looking. This time it was all crazy and tremulous. The best part was that the majority of the community was outside watching it. It was fun to see everyone together.
In the evening we had the crew talent show. It's exactly what it sounds like. The crew puts on a talent show. It was awesome. The crew is very professional and wears uniforms so it is really weird to see them in normal clothes and acting like normal people.
They sang and danced and did some hilariously bad stand-up and some weird puppet show. It was fantastic. Our crew is pretty fantastic and we have a lot of love for them. Enough love that we stood in a crazy line to get seats and almost got trampled. So glad that I was in the normal talent show so that I didn’t have to deal with it then. Apparently it was worse. They told us to not run or push but it was still madness and we ended more towards the back than the front. But we had a good view so it worked out.
Dean Eddie was the MC. The worst MC I have ever experienced. Which made it kind of funny. A literal quote from him, "Up next we have…a show…a good show."
Thanks Dean Eddie, that really painted a picture. And he said that in the middle of the show to describe the next act. Even better.
The best act was the band that went. They played 5 songs and were really good. It was awesome to see such talent come out of people that we have spent so much time with. We really don't know these people all that much. I learned that Darwin has some nice muscles and that Perry is the most energetic person ever and that one of the guys that we have never seen before is a really, really good singer.
Besides that, it was a study day so not all that much happened. I met with my group for my presentation in two days. But we all wanted to go to the talent show so we didn’t meet all that long. Should be an interesting presentation.
Oh! I finished my scarf. It is so long, I love it. But I don't know how to end it so right now it is just sitting on the needle waiting for me to find someone to help me.
Molly and I watched a movie. Did some thinking about the homework that I need to do.
As you can tell, it was really exciting.
I was really worried about Kellie. She hadn't emailed me in a really long time. It was to the point that I emailed my dad and asked him to make sure she was alive and let me know. He never emailed me back.
She finally emailed me and told me that she was alive and would email more later.
Thank god. I was legitimately freaking out.
It's all good now.
WAIT!
I remember something that happened. We had our last lifeboat drill at 9 in the morning.
They told us that they were not going to warn us and that the alarm would just sound and we would have to make it to our muster stations without instruction.
That was a lie. Captain Jeremy did come on and give instructions. The only difference was that they simulated a fire in the engine room and so directed the crew accordingly and apparently a bunch of the deck 2 cabins were evacuated. For the rest of us it was pretty standard.
Jessi and I had gotten up and put on our long pants and long sleeves and were laying in bed in the dark waiting for actual alarm. There are surprisingly a lot of announcement that come with a drill. After Captain Jeremy said that there was a "fire in the engine room" but that there was no reason to be concerned Molly called me.
She said that her and Marie were sitting in their lifejackets on their beds fully ready to go. And Molly was concerned that we were told us to not be concerned. I told her that she was being ridiculous, it was a simulation and she should go back to sleep.
She was way to peppy for just waking up. I should have taken that as a sign that I would not be able to handle her for the rest of the day.
She kept eating pretzels at inappropriate times and so was hungry for meals. I had to take them away from her.
The only sucky thing about the lifeboat drill was that it was a billion degrees out and we were all bundled up. That was not a good thing.
What was a good thing was that I went back to sleep after the drill.
I think I have now covered everything. I am not sad that there will not be anymore drills. They are not all that much fun. It is sad though. It was our last drill, that means that more and more lasts are to come.
