Day 104
You know what is really cool? That I am able to learn about space from an astronaut. It is just really, really cool.
Kathy Thornton held another talk today about space. Going to space, coming home from space, what they do in space, how they live in space. It was so cool. I can't even come up with a more interesting adjective. Just cool.
My dad sent me an email that made me feel so much better about my life crisis. This was my favorite part of it:
"CHILL! You’re trying to eat a life elephant in one sitting. And you don’t even know if you ordered elephant for dinner."
I am trying to eat a life elephant. And that is not all that much fun.
Thanks dad! You always know what to say.
I spent the majority of the day writing my International Management integrative paper. It had to be at least 3000 words and pull together everything we have learned about the ports and their management. It wasn’t too hard, but I had a little trouble organizing my thoughts. I ended up going to the writing center and she helped me put it into an order that made sense. I think it turned out really good.
I told Molly that we were not allowed to be friends all day because if we were friends then I would want to do something with her and not do my paper. This ended up being a good strategy. I took our non-friendship to heart when I donated her phone to two kids who needed to take a picture of their game that they needed to move. They didn’t give it back very easily. Oops.
I did recover it. That is all that matters.
This happened during travel writing when we spent the entire class editing each others pieces. Cody handed me two pieces that were about the same thing, just written different ways. The first one I ripped apart and made so many changes to. The second one I read through and couldn’t even edit it. It was so bad. I held it up, told him it was crap, and to throw it away. At least the first one was fixable. Oh Cody, I wouldn’t pursue a writing career.
I made sure to finish my paper by 9 because I had a card playing reunion date with Hayley, Trevor, and Colin. I went to the piano lounge to find them and Hayley pulled me into classroom three where a trivia game was starting. I had been to the first of this series of trivia. It was about the ocean and surround countries and was really hard. I told her this but she still insisted on staying. She realized I was right three questions in but by that point we couldn’t leave. I was on the same team as Trevor. He knew more of the answers than I did and we ended up doing ok. Not great, but better than the team that came in last.
When trivia was over we still wanted to play cards but Colin was no where to be found and it is hard to play cards with only three people. We called his room, found out he was hanging out with a bunch of people in there and so would not be coming. Lame.
So we decided to play a prank on him. We were going to get one of the huge sheets of paper from the student life office and put it over his door so that they were blockaded into their room. How hilarious.
Well, the student life office was closed and we couldn’t find an RD anywhere to help us. Bummer. So we decided to make a giant sheet of paper using the paper waste from the computer lab. Solid plan.
We taped together a 4 by 8 sheet of paper with tape stolen from the library. In the middle of this endeavor Trevor ditched us and Mia joined us. Hayley and I carried the paper down to his room and laid it on the ground and started putting tape around the edge.
That's when his door opened. Which Mia announced. Hayley and I pressed ourselves against the wall, since that was the only place to go. It was not the best hiding place. Then the following occurred:
Colin: Hello?
Mia: Oh hi. I'm just chilling here, in the hallway.
Colin: Lauren?
Me: I'm not here.
Colin: Mia?
Mia: I am here. I am not the invisible one.
Then came a hilarious situation where Hayley and I tried to pretend that the giant sheet of paper on the ground was a project for a class. Yeah, that didn’t go so well. Especially when I failed at giving an appropriate class time:
Colin: So what time does that class meet there Lauren?
Me: You know, they really just all blend together. But it's at 3:50.
*laughter*
Hayley: You couldn’t have at least picked an actual class time?!
Me: That is an actual class time!
Colin: More like 3:40.
Me: No, I'm pretty sure it's 3:50.
Colin: So your class starts 10 minutes later than everyone else's?
Me: Yeah.. I always oversleep.
Way to go Lauren.
The whole thing was hilarious and when he finally went back into his room we did put it over his door. It was a mess. This was a prank gone bad situation.
When we reopened the door to see the paper we heard a "What the hell is this? Wow, look at this impenetrable wall. We are trapped."
He stuck his head out the side of the poorly taped paper and from down the hall we just saw a head poking out the side. I have not laughed so hard in a while. Then he stuck his head out a hole in the middle and helped me tape it more to his door.
His roommate came up and asked what was going on. Colin told him there was an impenetrable wall blocking them in. His roommates response: "It's a piece of paper, just rip it down!" Then they started arguing about whether or not Colin was being sarcastic and if he actually thought it was impenetrable.
What.
Then they stuck a can of Axe through the hole and sprayed me in the face. Then they closed the door. Since I had used up all the tape I left. I was still laughing.
I'm still laughing now.
That was way more fun than playing cards. Although I did really want to play cards. Trevor offered a rain check but I honestly don't know when that would be. Sad.
In other news, we change time again tonight. We are going back an hour. This is our last time of the entire voyage. That means that tomorrow we will be in the same time zone again. Yay!! So exciting!
Also, I think I finally have my sea legs. Sure I still notice the rocking, especially when I am laying down and I will occasionally find myself walking uphill. But I no longer have really bad headaches or feel generally uncomfortable. Woo! Took long enough. Does this mean I am going to be land sick when this is over?
I hope not.
Tomorrow I am not allowed to have friends again. I have to do a bunch of things for Bio and Psych. I am done with Management and basically done with Travel Writing. We are winding down with classes! That is something that I am ok with. This doesn't feel like school so having work to do is not fun at all.
Three days till Cuba!
