Day 99
A lot happened today.
The most entertaining thing that happened was when I went to enter our room and as I opened the door Jessi made a weird noise and screamed "I'm naked" and then added "but you can come in, I guess." When I walked in she was standing in the room completely naked and holding my rain jacket in front of her. Absolutely hilarious.
Even funnier was three hours later when I was changing into my bathing suit and was going to put sunscreen on completely naked when I heard a key in the door. Of course. Jessi walked in on me naked holding my hammock in front of me. Probably the funniest thing that happened all day.
The rest of the day was kind of depressing. I thought the piece I wrote for Travel Writing was really good until another student in my class ripped it apart.
I put my hammock up on deck 8 again and enjoyed myself all afternoon until a security guard yelled at me. Excuse me. Why in the hell was I yelled at now?! A security guard walked by me yesterday and didn’t say anything and SAS posted a photo on their official Facebook page of someone sitting in a hammock right there as we pulled into Cape Town. I am so incredibly upset.
And I have been in a weird funk the past few days and being yelled at tipped me just over the edge and so I proceeded to have a complete mental breakdown that I attempted to hold in until I got my room. But my roommate and her boyfriend were there so I went down to Molly's room. When I got there and sat down on Marie's bed I started to cry. And then Molly started to cry. We went back and forth with, "Why are you crying?!" for a little bit.
She was just having a bad day and I was just having a bad few days. It was just a bad day. We both didn’t feel like eating so we missed dinner. My knitting was in her room so I started to knit.
I knitted for a very, very long time. It's a good mindless activity. When I started my scarf was about 5 inches long and it is now more like 3 feet.
Molly tried to suggest activities to cheer us up and some of them were good, but we just never did any of them. We ended up re-watching The Heat, which is a pretty funny movie.
In the middle of it Lillian came in to get something and sat for a while and chatting with us and knitted.
THEN she dropped the bomb that she had Allegiant, the third book in the Divergent series that had come out on October 22nd. I hadn't been able to find it, I don't think it was out internationally yet.
But she had bought it for Kindle and it was on her computer. There was no way to give it to me to read unless I just took her computer. That was a downer. I want to read it so badly!!
I didn’t leave Molly's room until after midnight. After it was already her birthday!! Yay!! I sang her a fantastic rendition of Happy Birthday at midnight.
Jessi and snuck down and decorated her door a while after I had left. When I had wifi in country I had collected a bunch of comics and pictures to put on her door so that I wasn’t decorating it with just sticky notes. And then I wrote an awesome story about Princess Molly with a sharpie. I think the door decorating was successful.
I really hope that tomorrow is better. I should be, it is nearly impossible to be in a mood other than ecstatic on someones birthday.
