Magic Kingdom in the Rain!
Today I had to get up really early to be at Disney University at 7:15. But it ended up being awesome. The class was called Once Upon a Time.... Is Now. It was basically an orientation to the Magic Kingdom.
The people in the class were not necessarily all in the College Program but we did all work at the Magic Kingdom. They want to to know the park you work in well so the entire class was us walking around the park and them telling us facts about it. We even rode some rides.
The best part was that it was raining, so when the park actually opened there was still nobody in it. It was pretty funny because the day started off just drizzling. Then every time we would go into a building, it would be raining a bit harder by the time we came out. By the end it was pouring rain. And I was wearing cloth shoes, which did not work will. By the end my pants were soaked almost up to the knee. But I had a poncho so the rest of me was dry.
I love going to the parks in the rain because there is no one there so you get to just walk right on to the rides. Yay hurricane!
I learned some interesting stuff. That flag that you see in the middle of the square there, well, it is a law that you must either light a flag or lower it in order to keep it up over night. So, every evening at 5 they find a veteran or active member of the armed forces and perform a flag ceremony. Pretty cool.
When we were standing by City Hall they brought out all the pins that are available to guests. You know, Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary, Family Reunion, etc. He just handed them out to us and I ended up with the First Visit pin. I had a good giggle to myself.
I gave it to Angie since this is actually her first time.
The rides that we rode on our tour were Buzz Lightyear and The Haunted Mansion. Both fabulous. We talked about the four key basics some more, Safety, Courtesy, Show, Efficiency. They are really good at pounding that into your skull.
Then we were done, at 11:15. The roomies and I were planning on going to Hollywood Studios for the rest of the day, but they aren't at my hard core level yet and decided to not brave the rain.
So, I went home, ate lunch, took a two hour nap, laid in bed, went to the gym, ate dinner, and organized my room. It has been a strangely relaxing and yet productive day. Tomorrow I have my second say of site specific training, in costume. And it is supposed to still be raining, awesome. Bring it on.
